We looked at Lisa’s living room earlier this week, now its on to her dining room. Her dining room is fairly large, about 15′ x 18′ but also serves as the pathway through to the kitchen. Lisa has a fabulous sideboard that’s staying, but needs a much larger table, more storage and general decor. The table they have now belonged to her husband’s grandfather, so they’d like to find a way to work it into the house as well.
Here’s how it looks now.
Lisa would like a large, chunky farmhouse table and envisions it paired with metal tolix chairs, which will be lovely. I think she should go a step further and add a wooden bench and some arm chairs into the mix to create an eclectic feel. She has a lovely sideboard that’s staying as well.
A large table, leaning open shelves for storage and display, extra seating and the grandfather’s table (extension removed) to function as a game table in their lovely window space. Unstructured linen drapes, shown below, add texture and soften the space.
Details. I’ve included some options in this mood board. Two rug choices and chair options They already have some great art in the space, so I’ve just added a few details to bring in color.

Large dining tables can be expensive and Lisa’s husband is handy with carpentry, so I’ve suggested that they build this table from Ana White’s plans.
I’ve also included budget friendly chairs similar to the tolix from overstock.com. At $200 for four, they are a great deal and get good reviews. I think it could be fun to paint some of them in a green similar to the chairs shown.
What do you think? Which rug is your favorite?
The sideboard and those farm tables are lovely!
Aren’t they? And if you’d told me five years ago I’d like either one I’d have said you were insane. Tastes change.
Wow that looks great. I have to have you over to take a look at my new place.
Lovely site. Your floor plan looks great on the blog. Do you use CAD of another progam? Found you on BYW.
Thanks Merri. This was actually done using Pottery Barn’s online room planner. You can only put in their furniture, but that worked for this purpose. I’ve also used floorplanner.com and I’ve heard google sketch up is good.
yes, soon :)
I do love the sideboard and table. lovely. I think I like the lighter rug. :)
I love this rustic look! I am dying over that green chair and the ladder bookcase :) I really love the yellow rug but I think either will look great! Lisa is a lucky girl!!!
